I find Hirokazu Koreeda to be incredibly talented, but someone I admire just as much (if not more) is Yutaka Yamasaki, the Director of Photography of Dare mo Shiranai (or Nobody Knows), a Japanese film about a single mother who abandons her young children in a small apartment in Tokyo. The lighting and camera work in this film is absolutely breathtaking.

I love this film for the incredible Production Design, classic Wes Anderson deadpan humor and the overall brilliance of Bill Murray. Like The Science Of Sleep, The Life Aquatic seems to be widely hated, which I can (sort of) understand from a storytelling perspective, but I can’t help loving it anyway.

I always loved Cassie’s eclectic, theatrical style on the British television series Skins. I was very sad to see her character go after the second season. Although I absolutely adore the fashion in television series like Gossip Girl (or The OC, back in the day), I feel that they represent outfits that are very composed and deliberate. Skins, on the other hand, presents fashion-savvy audiences with something very different; more erratic, untidy and probably more realistic of most teenagers. Below are a collection of a few of my favourite Cassie outfits.

I’m moving to Brisbane on Wednesday. The house is nice and cheap, but it has a dark green carpet! Why why why? I am feeling inspired by twinkling lights today, so that’s going to be a main feature of the new room. I also want to decorate with those cardboard/recycled-look desk organisational items from Kikki.k – I am crazy for stationary. I’m also planning to put in an order for my new quad-core iMac with i7 processor on Monday. Very exciting!
I just can’t get over that green carpet!

Here’s the finished commission. I’m fairly happy with how it turned out.

Well, I’m back from my camping / rapiding trip. It was so much fun, but now I’m covered in bruises and scratches. I look a bit like a domestic violence victim. I’m also very sunburnt! I have extremely fair skin and hate getting sunburnt. When I first got back from Colombia, my family and friends were so shocked at how brown I was. I’m not quite as brown as back then, but I’m getting there.
Here are some photos:
Pre-warning: they are very unglamorous and I was not wearing makeup or regularly showering.

I’m in love with this dress. I think it’s just so beautiful. I fall so bad for peter pan collars, they’re irresistible. It’s available for approximately $268 AUD at Urban Outfitters.

On the topic of things I can’t afford right now, how amazing is this Fendi bicycle? (US$9,500 for the luxury version)

If I had a bicycle as beautiful as that, I would ride it everyday. Imagine riding through the countryside in Spain, wearing a floaty summer dress, stopping by a river to have a picnic. Perfection!

I adore Clémence Poésy, she has such great personal style and just about the most beautiful name in the world. It’s silly that diacritic marks (those little things above the letters) seem so chic to people outside of Latin-based languages. Por ejemplo, wouldn’t my name look so much prettier if it were Joélle, instead of Joelle? I think so. My name is french afterall, doesn’t it deserve a diacritic mark? Sigh.

For me, Clémence is the master of tailored, structured casual outfits. I am so tired of the ‘unstructured grunge’ or I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-threw-this-tartan-shirt-and-ripped-jeans-on look. I want a return to classic cuts, heavy fabrics, blazers, lining, femininity. Actually, maybe I’m just ready for winter. I do love to layer.

Oh Clémence, shame on you for making smoking appear so chic.
Tomorrow my friends and I are going on a camping/rapiding trip to Nymboida river, so I wont be able to blog until we get back in a week. I’m looking forward to having a campfire and night swimming in fresh water.
My friend Maya and I spent the afternoon collecting mangoes and grapes from trees in the neighbourhood. The people down the road have a huge (huge huge) mango tree and all the mangoes are falling off and rotting. We’re going to go back tonight in dark clothing and arrange a little mango heist. We’re liberating them really, saving them! Those mangoes want to be eaten! I will update my progress.

I love this image; it reminds me a bit of my Sea of Shoes illustrations. Octopuses are lovely!
