Guess who? It’s Jane Aldridge of Sea Of Shoes! I’m doing a series of illustrations based on fashion icons and bloggers.

Does anyone else think that Chanel Iman is a weird choice for Victoria’s Secret? On one hand, I’m glad they are representing a slightly wider spectrum of ethnicities and body types (including larger body types, with Heidi Klum post-baby and Doutzen Kroess’ slight weight gain) but I’ve always associated VS models with curvyness. Chanel Iman is so non-curvy and as much as I think she’s a great model, I don’t think she has that commercial Victoria Secret quality to her. Have a look at Chanel walking for VS and decide for yourself:

In this new once-weekly segment I will post briefly on actors, filmmakers, musicians, artists or otherwise who inspire me through their work, personal style or general good-looking-ness.
French actress and musician. Daughter of Jane Birkin. Oh-so-stylish in that understated French way of dressing. Watch her in Michel Gondry’s amazing Science of Sleep.
Gainsbourg is currently part of an Australian / French production called The Tree, based on the novel Our Father Who Art In The Tree, by Australian author Judy Pascoe. The film will be directed by Julie Bertucelli. She won the Critics week Grand Prize at Cannes(2003) and the César for Best First Film for her directorial debut Since Otar Left. I haven’t seen it myself, but I will as soon as I get my hands on a copy!
Shooting for The Tree began in August in the rural Queensland town of Boonnah – which actually isn’t so far from where I live! I would give my left arm to be a runner or production assistant on this film.
Charlotte Gainsbourg isn’t classically beautiful, but I love her face. I think she’s quite mesmerising on film and such a wonderful actress. Girl-crush!

Here’s Australian model Catherine Mcneil at a party at the LV store in Melbourne wearing the same dress Leighton Meester wore to the Louis Vuitton show a few weeks ago. Who do you think wore it better? This dress is amazing; I’m developing a minor obsession!

Do you go all out on Christmas? I’m so guilty of this, so I love these adorable Christmas-themed PJs from Peter Alexander.
Pajamas are actually one of my favourite things to shop for in general. I’m not exactly sure why, but I think it has something to do with the idea of a person being so perfectly organised and well-dressed, that even their pajamas are beautiful. Plus the whole concept of going to bed in gorgeous silk or light cotton pajamas, on Egyptian cotton sheets with a squirt of Chanel perfume feels quite cinematic and appealing to me, kind of like in an old Audrey Hepburn movie.
Unfortunately summer weather doesn’t make sleeping time very glamourous at all. And that’s probably how it should be.

Still, I’m so getting those pyjamas.

I love this look. It’s simple, but accessorized so well. And the shoes, oh my god, the shoes! I could die happy if I owned those Louis Vuitton’s. And they’re so perfect with that navy jacket and little LV handbag.
Sigh.

Shout out to the Australian readers who, like me, are experiencing ridiculously hot weather right now. I feel your pain.
Some of you might have seen the fruit cup icy pole I posted on my twitter yesterday. They’re basically the perfect hot-weather food. I was craving another one today but didn’t really feel like trekking it to the dingy little petrol station / fruit shop hybrid the next town over to buy one. And even if I did, I’d just have to go back again and again. So I decided to make some myself. It didn’t even occur to me to use tin fruit until someone pointed it out hours later. But real fruit tastes better anyway, even if I did eat half of it in preparation.

I got new glasses recently. They’re plain, black Bvlgari lenses. I not even a fan of Bvlgari, but these suited my face the best of all the ones I tried. I ended up buying from OPSM in the city. The only problem is that they tend to slip down a bit; this was true of just about every pair of frames I tried on because I have quite a flat nose bridge. It’s so annoying.
I originally had my eye on these Chanel frames, but they looked ridiculous on my superlarge head.
I also bought some mickey mouse leggings. But it’s suddenly way to hot to wear them here in Northern NSW. All I’ve been doing the last few days is lazing around and eating semi-frozen fruit.

How good was the last episode of Gossip Girl?
The costume designer (Eric Daman) is dressing Serena so much better this season; much more elegant and with less cleavage. I love the soft blue coats they’ve put her in above. The one on the right is by Phillip Lim. It’s available at Barneys for US$650.
