I have this strange little fixation with beautiful perfume commercials (and beautifully made commercials generally). Some day, I hope to work as a Production Designer for film, but I also study and work in visual effects and motion graphics, which tends to make me naturally lean towards to visuals over storytelling – not a good thing, I know! I think this is the reason I’m attracted to the concept of commercials as simple, little bursts of ideas that are presented exceptionally beautifully.

I’m not an avid trend-follower, but I love unique tights as a trend. It’s such an easy, affordable way to keep your outfits relevant and fashion-concious. And, of course, super cute. Two leg-related looks I’ve seen everywhere this season are Dotted tights (see Balenciaga, above) and Two-tone Tights. (continue reading) I think they’re such a great way to add a bit of interesting quirkiness to an otherwise unadventurous outfit.

How great did Leighton Meester look at the SS2010 Louis Vuitton show? I’m still not completely sold on socks with heels; I like it theoretically, but I think it’s very difficult to pull off. It may be the awkward length of the socks that is putting me off, but it does give the whole outfit an interesting quirkiness, so I like it.

When people talk about high-end fashion being ridiculous, crazy or over-the-top, they’re usually talking about someone like Alexander McQueen. While ‘wearable’ certainly isn’t a word that springs to mind when I think of his collections, I don’t dislike them. Like art, I think fashion sometimes takes itself a little bit too seriously, so I tend to appreciate the controversy brought about by McQueen’s shows. And with fashion becoming so re-used and re-worked, it’s nice to see something the feels original.
