I find Hirokazu Koreeda to be incredibly talented, but someone I admire just as much (if not more) is Yutaka Yamasaki, the Director of Photography of Dare mo Shiranai (or Nobody Knows), a Japanese film about a single mother who abandons her young children in a small apartment in Tokyo. The lighting and camera work in this film is absolutely breathtaking.

I love this film for the incredible Production Design, classic Wes Anderson deadpan humor and the overall brilliance of Bill Murray. Like The Science Of Sleep, The Life Aquatic seems to be widely hated, which I can (sort of) understand from a storytelling perspective, but I can’t help loving it anyway.
